Who creates the account
You, the parent or guardian, create the account with your e-mail address and your password. You then add one profile per child (a first name, an instrument). A child under 16 does not create an account alone. If a child signed up alone, write to us: we close the account or attach it to you.
What we store about your child
The bare minimum to learn: their first name (or a nickname), the instrument, lessons done, days practised, stars, homework, and the audio takes or videos they choose to keep so their teacher can listen. No date of birth, no required photo, no location.
The microphone and camera work on the device, to listen to the child play and for live lessons. Nothing is sent without pressing “keep” or entering a lesson room.
What we never do
No advertising. No profiling. No selling or sharing of data with third parties. No messaging between children. No in-app purchases: everything goes through the parent.
Who sees your child
You, in the parents’ corner (the week, the songs, the stars) and in the weekly e-mail summary. Your child’s teacher (Chris, or their school’s teacher), to help them. Chris as administrator, for support and security. Nobody else. In a group class, the other children hear your child and see their first name.
Your rights as a parent
See, correct, export and delete everything, at any time: takes, videos and profiles from the app, the rest by writing to chrisguitartuto@gmail.com. Withdrawing your consent stops the child’s account; their data is deleted within 30 days.
The box ticked at sign-up
When the kids account is created, you tick the following box. We keep the date and the version of the accepted text with the account:
“I am the parent or legal guardian of the child (or children) on this account. I have read the privacy policy and the parental consent, and I agree that Chris Guitar Tuto stores their first name, instrument, progress and the takes they choose to keep, to teach them music. I can see and delete everything at any time.”
The legal frame
This consent is asked for under Article 8 of the GDPR (children under 16), the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and section 25 of the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017 (parental consent for a child under 16). [To be confirmed by the lawyer: age threshold per country, proof of consent.]
The rest is in the Privacy policy and the Terms of use.
